Question Acer Aspire One 725 Elantech Touchpad not working

    Hello,

I just installed 12.04 on an Acer Aspire One 725, and after updating the kernel to 3.4, everything seems to work except the Elantech touchpad, which doesn't work at all.

"xinput list" in terminal shows the following:

Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ USB Optical Mouse id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
    ⎜ ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ HD WebCam id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Acer WMI hotkeys id=14 [slave keyboard (3)]

still can't get the touchpad running. Any thoughts? ideas?

    Thank-you

    Hi,

I have the same problem. Just bought an Aspire One 725 and tried Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Mint Cinnamon 13, both sadly do not support the touchpad.

Nope, this definitely doesn't work, as soon as I enter: sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf it just hangs at the terminal forever, after about an hour I just killed the process.

Sure you don't just need to re-enable it with Fn+F7? That seems to be a common problem.

Ok, turns out this solution from the link above works, though no scrolling:

This is a way to create a file that fixed my Aspire One, so I'm sharing it:

    1. Open the Terminal
    2. cd /etc/modprobe.d/
    3. gksudo gedit options.conf
    4. In the text editor, type: options psmouse proto=imps
    5. Save the file and close it.
    6. sudo modprobe -r psmouse
    7. sudo modprobe psmouse
