    maximum network no processes

I'm using 11.10 on a desktop with an AMD Phenom, 4 gb ram, 600 gb HD, DSL 5-7 Mbps

My system often shows the modem working at maximum download speed and the sys monitor shows very high CPU and network history use with only Firefox in use to read this forum.

This makes other applications very slow to load and Firefox hangs or doesn't load destination pages. Chromium is better, but not always.

I'm not sure why this happens, or what to do. I've tried reconfiguring settings in Firefox, but don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

If I remember correctly, Firefox has experienced a lot of memory leaks. Are you able to throttle your modem's download speed?

Not that I know of. I'm using an older Action-tec GT701 WG from Qwest.
I've been planning on an newer one, but can't right now.

You say Chromium works, have you tried Google Chrome (downloading it from here)?
