Question Authentication timeouts with ath9k driver and TP LINK TL-WN951N card (AR5416 chip)

    Hi folks,

Im having some trouble getting this card TP-LINK TL-WN951N to work on 11.10. Im actually using XMBCbuntu but I believe this is based on 11.10. Authentication timeout occurs and I have checked and rechecked everything.

On my router I tried using WPA/WPA2 mixed mode as well as strict WPA2 mode. None of these worked.

Anyone got some idea about this ?

Re: Problems with WLAN AR5416 (TL-WN951N)

Installed the latest compact-wireless-3.5 stable drivers but still no luck. Its failing to authenticate.

any ideas from anyone ? atleast on tips on where to look for the problem would help at this stage.

Lightbulb Re: Problems with WLAN AR5416 (TL-WN951N)

First of all, let me congratulate you on a well prepared help request. It's unfortunate that those tend to be the most ignored sometimes.

Have you been to these threads?

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1916598
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/11094...rking-properly
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/85973...atheros-ar5008

The short version, it looks like 11.10 might have some driver issues with this card.

You might try looking for the latest version of the drivers, and see if that fixes your issue. You may want to try a 12.04 live CD and see if the issue is already fixed in a later version of Ubuntu.

I'll subscribe here, and I'd be happy to take a look deeper later when I have more time.

Re: Problems with WLAN AR5416 (TL-WN951N)

    Hey thanks for the info.

Yeah I had gone through various suggestions that others have found to work with different Atheros chipsets. But none of them worked in my case. So I just gave up my precious time trying to fix it. Perhaps it works with certain kernels but having tried the latest drivers im not sure why it was failing. Its definitely the driver as it had worked with windows os's.

So I bought a new wireless card also based on Atheros chipset. This is a TP-WDN4800 with which worked right out of the box. And it had 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz which is ideal for my purpose. No errors or authentication problems either.
