Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't recognize my cdrom drive.

I want to make a live cd of ubuntu 12.04. but ubuntu 12.04 does not acknowledge the existence of my cdrom drive so I can't burn anything. I have a dell dimension 4700 computer. Ubuntu recognizes my dvd drive but not the cd.

Without knowing too much about your hardware, the DVD drive probably is the CD drive. What happens when you put a CD in and launch whatever app you use to burn disks?
