    brickferd:
first of all, i see you have two access points in range. something i notice about those two networks is that they are both using the same channel. i suggest for matters of avoiding possible confusion that you change your access point's channel to something else. you may not need to do anything more that this to get your card to connect.

for your wep, are you using 128 bit or something else? you might have more luck using 64 bit wep. when you enter your hex key for 64 bit wep, you don't need to enter dashes.

also, once you change the channel for your access point, don't forget to change the "sudo iwconfig ..." section to match.

glad to know it worked for you!

Re: Linksys AXC111 chipset (wpc54g v2) via ndiswrapper

    OK, update.

I re-read the FAQs on ndiswrapper wiki and tried the following:
    iwconfig wlan0 key open 'wepkey'

And then: iwconfig wlan0 essid This_Better_Work

    And finally!

    root@eric-laptop:~# iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"This_Better_Work"
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:0D:88:B8:AA:78
    Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power:10 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
    RTS thr:4096 B Fragment thr:4096 B
    Encryption key:XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XX Security modepen
    Power Managementff
Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-37 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

    sit0 no wireless extensions.

So this is great, right? Not so fast, still no access, and furthermore when I run ifconfig, here's the output:

    root@eric-laptop:~# ifconfig

Does it mean anything to see "Ethernet" for both eth0 and wlan0?

I'm sooo close here, thanks for the continued help!

    that's really strange, two ip's.

first of all, go into networking and disable eth0. you don't have an onboard wireless adapter do you? also, do change the channel for your network so we're sure you don't have interference from your second access point.

edit: wait, you did ifconfig ... before you ran the connection command, were you connected to the internet via an ethernet cable? if so, you'll have to disconnect that and run: sudo ifdown eth0.

you can't be connected to the internet twice through two different adapters. so if you have previous access with your lan cable, you'll have to terminate it before you can get access via your wireless adapter.

good news is that you got an ip. so once you disable your lan connection, you should be good. let me know, and i'll update the howto with your information on wep.

    dmizer,

You are the best! I stumbled my way through turning down eth0 even before I saw your reply and I'm happy to report that I'm up and running on wireless, just like you figured out. Thanks so much for all of your help with this issue.

Ok, I messed around with this card on Dapper Drake 6.06 for about 3 hours. Cudos to dmizer for making an excellent Howto. I finally did get the card working after trying everything I could think of and all the forums resources, and it works wonderfully!!! In the end I used the stock network manager and it worked! I tried blacklisting the acx driver, thats a no go cause it wouldn't even start. I tried to change acx's firmware, no go. I can't confirm this right now but I think for Dapper all you have to do is install the drivers (after the name change of course, I would have never figured that out) and use the network manager to put in your settings. I also thought that the network manager doesn't work all the time and you can edit the /etc/interfaces file directly. BTW I am using 128 bit WEP and no problems!!! Again thanks!!

glad to know i helped. if you get network manager to work let me know. i have not been successful in this. i think the problem is that the card won't accept settings until it sees a scan.

but if you get it to work, please post back and let us know how you did it.

Okay, it worked... sort of... I can get it to connect, but only if I am not running any security (well, 128bit WEP wouldn't work...) and I cannot use Network manager at all...

But there is progress! Still, I may just try to get my D-Link card working... I think that might be easier...

    Thanks!

    zodiac:
with wep, it may not always work the first time through. this is true even in windows. sometimes cards have a difficult time with it.

can you post your version of this line:
    Code:
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan&& sudo iwconfig wlan0 channel 1 essid youressid mode Managed key open && sudo ifup wlan0
and include the part about your wep key? i'd like to see if we can get wep working for you. then if you stick with it, maybe we can give network manager a shot ...
just on a whim, for wep, try this:
    Code:
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan&& sudo iwconfig wlan0 channel 1 essid youressid mode Managed s:mykey enteryourcodeprhasehere&& sudo ifup wlan0
