I'm thinking about trying to install a proprietary graphics driver such as fglyx instead of the open source driver on my Dell Laptop Ubuntu 12.04. I did something similar though a couple of years ago and after attempting to install a new driver it didn't seem to work. Meaning...when I rebooted I couldn't see anything. I can barely see the password field to login but since the graphics driver didn't recognize my system the visuals were all messed up and I couldn't navigate and do anything such as safe mode boot. In the case this happens is there a way I can go back to my prior configuration? Or is there a special way to boot to a "safe mode" so I can at least see what I'm doing and fix it? Please advise. Thanks, Rich H
