change ntfs file system type

Hi,
I have a dual boot system.
I have a ntfs file system, on which my window7 is installed.
I am not been able to access it either through live ubuntu or installed ubuntu system, and I also cannot boot into windows.

I want to know,
if I run the live ubuntu, and from gParted, if I change the file system to ntfs or any other type, is it going to delete all my data on that partition or not?
I just want to access my data from my windows.

Yes, changing the file system will delete everything, don't do it.

What happens exactly when you try accessing that partition? Any errors? What's the output of dmesg | grep sda2?

When I try to access that partition, it gives error message:

Unable to mount 37 GB Filesystem
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

You'll need to find a working windows computer, and use it to check the file system. I know of no other way to fix it.
