Question Ubuntu 12.04 blank purple screen after kernel update

I made a post in a different forum earlier, but I didn't get any replies...

So Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit updated the kernel to 3.2.0-26-generic, and a few other things. It said I had to restart to apply the updates fully, blah blah blah... But when it booted back up, it just stalled on a blank purple screen. I got it booted up once by putting
    Code:
    nomodeset
instead of quiet splash, but even after trying the exact same thing multiple times, it just stays at a blank purple screen now... When I got it up that one time I did
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
and checked for updates (none). I tried recovery mode too, and it stalls at the same blank purple screen

My machine is running on an i5 3570k with nvidia gtx 550 ti.

Is there any known fix for this? Or any suggestions that I should try?
If there's any information I forgot to tell
