Hello! due to recent forum policy changes (would have been nice to get at least a warning ....) i am unable to edit the leading post in the thread
Asus Eee PC 1015PN - graphic cards: Optimus and ION

Could a staff member please edit this post , remove the 'updated...' and the 'Version 12.04, Version 11.10' ect lines and add

    'See http://mtron.co.nr/projects/eee1015pn for up-to-date information'

    best,

We gave pleanty of notice, you have just not been paying attention.

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1949027

In addition we have a channel, #ubuntuforums, web link in my sig, as well as FC meetings.

    Where have you been ?

Your lack of attention is not a failure on the part of the staff.

I do not understand what change you wish made.

You will have to either convert your post to a wiki page or make a much more polite and clear request.

I believe mtron is requesting that a staff member edit the project to include a link to their blog/site. Where the project updates will be maintained in the future. Giving mtron the ability to update said project without Wiki.

    Re: edit message

The solution to the edit problem is not to restrict editing to 24 hours.

In the code for the forum, when someone edits a post, have it do exactly what it does when someone makes a new post. In other words, a edited post is a now the same as new post.

Now whatever notices and lists a new post goes on, so does a edited post and any spam can be detected.

I am sure it's all in one php file.

    Re: edit message

And if you like, I can make a perl script (perl is preferred but PHP if we really, really have to) that will parse a text "log" file that has all the new or edited posts in it, look for any links in a post and only show those posts with links in them so there's less to look through.

Mods could access that page to look for spam.

I would write it in a simple perl format so it's easy to modify, it will be posted here public domain and available to anyone to use.

If there isn't a file for new posts available already, then all you have to do is add some simple code to append any postings or edits to the file. That would be about 5 lines of code.

I can make the script trim the file every time it is run so it doesn't get too big (if you have to create a file that is).

Thank you for your offer, but we do not want the same "solution".

We have staff who can script and the "problem" is not a lack of resources (thank you Canonical) or a lack of scripting (we have several staff who could easily script such a feature).

The problem is that the forums are not the best place for this activity.

We understand this is a change, but we strongly see this as a significant improvement for the entire community, and yes we are interested in contributing to the community beyond the forums.

So, if you wish to help, please learn wiki syntax and join the wiki or documentation team.
