What Ubuntu/other Linux version for Alpha Centauri?

I want to set up a dual boot/Live-boot USB so I can play SMAC without having to mess around with too many things.

I won't be using it for anything else.

What version of Ubuntu should I use? Is there a more suitable Linux variant? Ideally, I would like to be able to install it with Wubi but I could use unetbootin to create a Live USB if needed, or even dual boot.

It doesn't really matter all that much which distro or interface you use, unless you have a 386 or something.

I have SMAC running with Crossover Pro, but it does indeed work with wine; it's been working with wine since about 3 months after SMAC was released.

I drink my Ubuntu black, no sugar.

I'm talking about playing the Linux version, not the Windows one.

There are certain versions that would have the correct libs and required files for an old game like Alpha Centauri. I just don't know which.

Who was talking about Windows in this thread???? As much I know no one. So you can use any version of linux. Just remember to use wine.

I wasn't talking about Windows in my reply. I was talking about the Windows version.

And as I have said twice now, there are certain versions that are more suitable for playing old games like SMAC because they already have the required libs. How many more times do I need to repeat myself?

So wait. Are you talking about the Linux OS version? Or the game itself?

I'll try to make it simpler:

Game I am trying to play:

    Alpha Centauri Linux version

What I am trying to play it on:

Whatever version of Ubuntu is most suitable/already has the required sets of libs.

I was thinking maybe 7.04 as this is the earliest version that I found a wubi installer for. It's possible that no Ubuntu is suited though, in which case I will try any other distro that I can get to dual-boot.
