    duh! a real basic question....

Hi, I was given an ASUS EeePc1000 netbook with ubuntu already on it. I want to load the most current (Ubuntu 12.4 is the number I think...) on it but cannot even figure out how to find out which version is currently running on this netbook.
Do I need to know that before I install the current version?
If so, how do find that info on the netbook?
Once I know... what is the best way to update to 12.4 on the netbook?

    Thanks, Lainey

Hi, you can find out what version you have installed with:
    Code:
    lsb_release -a
I recommend that you backup any data you want to keep, reformat the partitions you are going to use and do a fresh install of 12.04 so you do not have any issues from upgrading.
    Thanks

    Thanks for quick reply.
I assume you mean i should type that code in a "Terminal"? right?

My terminal does not have the "code:" above the upper left hand side... I really am a newbie....thought I'd ask... I need the picture (what I will see on the screen) spelled out for me I guess... thnks... Lainey

You just open a terminal, then copy the text from within the 'code' box above, then paste into terminal.
