Toshiba A505-S6965 Microphone Issue

I just installed Linux Mint on my buddies machine and all went well except the Microphone has to be reselected from the Sound Preferences each time the machine is restarted. Sound works fine but the microphone will not work until you select Input from the Sound Preference and then select the only thing available, which is the internal Mic. Why is this and how do I make the machine select this right from start? Thanks.
