    Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A issues

    Apologies for repeating this question, but I think it may have gotten buried in the thread and I think several people may still be interested. This will be the last time I make this request.

    Can anyone with the UX21A comment on the readability of such a high resolution on the 11.6 in screen? I know this can be very subjective, but it would be nice to know if some things are just way too small to read comfortably. A bonus would be if someone can post a picture of the screen showing a web browser rendering the www.nytimes.com page to illustrate how small the default fonts are.

    Thanks in advance!

    BIOS 206 appeared on http://support.asus.com/download/dow...px?model=UX31A

    (What does it do? Trying out later)

    There is already 208 (UX31a) appeared on another thread.
    http://nbtsd.asustreiber.de/BIOS/UX31AAS.208.zip

    There is mainly a different fan behavior between the bios versions, afaik.

    There is a german thread (Since you do speak german, this shouldn't be a problem.) with a discussion about the bios versions:

    Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A issues

    I think www.nytimes.com wouldn't be the best example to try that, since all the font-size styles are in em, instead of px. So the size of the fonts should depend on the DPI setting of the OS.
    I can tell you, that normal websites are mostly readable on the 13inch zenbook, without a problem. But it's already small. On 12inch it could be a bit hard to read 11px fonts.
    But the today's browsers have a really good zoom feature, so if you can't read anything, just zoom in.
    And the OS UI should scale automatically when the correct dpi value is set in settings, just like webpages that use em instead of px for font-size styling.

    @nexero:
    Is 12.04 with your dkms-package the best combination so far? I get my replaced ux31a tomorrow, so i've to decide till then if i try 12.04 or 12.10.
    Does the keyboard backlight hotkey work with your dkms-package? What's about power button?
    Is there a chance that you create a dkms-package for the 12.10 kernel? Then we can get better touchpad support and working fn-keys.
    Then they just have to fix the lcd backlight bug and nearly everything important will work fine on the ux31a.

    I'm working on a dkms-package for 12.10, just be patient

    @CarstenOtto: Yes, I'm having this freezes too, but only with 3.2-Kernels.. They're gone with later kernels like 3.4 and 3.5, although these kernels consume slightly more power (~1W)...

    @mixer2:
    Power button doesn't work.
    keyboard-backlight keys do.

    Backlight adjustment for LCD can be done in two ways:
    * values 0 - 4095:
    echo 2000 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
    * values 0 - 10:
    echo 2 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

    both don't work with Ubuntu 12.10
