    Doesn't something like this:
    https://answers.launchpad.net/asus-k...uestion/169520

    or
    https://github.com/ktoso/g73-keyboar...ster/light_.sh

work on the ux31a? Can't try it at the moment, because i sent my UX31a back for replacement. Had some stuck pixels.
I think that the keyboard backlight can't be turned off is the most annoying bug.

    @lmarso:
What exactly works better on 12.10 than 12.04?

    Nope, doesn't work.
    I found some interesting bug-reports at acpi4asus for acpi-eventhandling kernel-module asus-wmi:
    http://dev.iksaif.net/issues/234

I think this bug is responsible for our problems...

Nice, sounds as it would be possible to change keyboard backlight very soon.

Has anyone tried to attach an external screen to the VGA or HDMI port yet? If you have the time to test this, I would like to hear about success or failure.

I did with HDMI. It worked fine, except the DPI issue that i need to address using this tutorial: http://linuxtidbits.wordpress.com/20...teresting-diy/

If you are not bothered by this, then you can say it works out of the box.

ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad mostly out of the box.

However, nothing seems to restore the lcd panel brightness control of 12.04. too bright for some applications, like early AM / late PM use

So, better touchpad support vs non dimmable lcd backlight. Hurm... don't know what to install, as soon as i get my ux31a back.

There is btw another thread where they fixed the right mouse button touchpad problem.

brightness is a kernel bug in 3.5.0. documented here:

    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43168

fixed in next release under development, i think.

This is what I've just done (and it seems to work just fine on my UX31A).

Installed kernel 3.4 on 12.04 from this page: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa.../v3.4-quantal/

Rebooted and then installed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics v 1.6.1 (quantal version) from the following link: http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/x...nput-synaptics

Now the touchpad/clickpad works as expected (left click, right click, left click+drag) and also the brightness control in System Settings works.

    Talking FIX for Fn keys

    Fix for (most) Fn-Keys:
I took this patch and made my first DKMS package (maybe sloppy, but works for me):
    http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1315719

Most Fn keys are working now, except for Fn-F5 and Fn-F6 (changing LCD brightness)

Just install this package using following code:
    Code:
    gzip -d asus-wmi-dkms_999.01_all.deb.gz
    sudo apt-get install dkms
    sudo dpkg -i asus-wmi-dkms_999.01_all.deb
xev does now recognize Fn keystrokes
    Attached Files Attached Files
