Any ideas about how to get around this problem?
Just UNCHECK box near Disable touchpad while typing in Touchpad settings.
If this box is checked, it starts syndaemon with its own commandline switches.
    Read this.

The final version of Kernel 3.5.0 mainline is now available here:

    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa.../v3.5-quantal/

Unfortunately, the issues meantioned in the wiki (see here) are still there.

Has anybody been successful in using an external microphone with the combo jack? I've tried two different smartphone headsets, and in both cases the internal mic remained activated.

    @arbrandes:
my smartphone headset works without any problems... but first time i plugged it in the port, it was very very hard to get it completely in. if the plug isn't completely in the port, the mic doesn't work, but audio out does.

mixer2: no luck here. Pushed in as hard as I dared, and still only picking up the built-in mic. Going to find another headset and try again... Thanks!

Well spotted - I've just tested it and it doesn't seem to work here either.
A quick google search brought up this link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/950490

The solution posted there also worked on my UX31A.

Type the following code in a terminal window and hit 'Enter':

    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Add the following line at the very bottom of the alsa-base.conf document, save it, and reboot the zenbook:

    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-dmic
Now when you plug in an external mic, it should auto-switch to it.
As I said, it works on my machine.

Can you please confirm that it works for you as well?
If so, I'll update the wiki accordingly.

Do I need to download kernel sources and build the kernel myself, or what am I doing wrong? I get this messages after installing your patch:

    Code:
    ...
Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the
kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed.

And even after rebooting, my fn-keys like the keyboard elumination and the volume control keys don't seem to work

Re: Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A issues

hurm i checked it again and you're right. the external mic doesn't work out of the box in ubuntu. i tested it on the windows the notebook was shipped with and then thought it does work in ubuntu, because everyone could hear me in voice chats. but it used the internal mic Oo
but nice, that there is a solution.

today xorg edgers updated to 3.5.0-6 and wifi does work for me again (had to use 3.5.0-4, because wifi behavior was very strange in 3.5.0-5). but the patch for the fn hotkeys doesn't seem to work anymore. can anyone confirm that?

oh, and if anyone uses google chrome as browser. i had the problem that it wasn't very responsive while running on battery. i wasn't able to scroll at all, while the browser was loading. and with webapps that do ajax requests in background all the time it was unusable. so i had to use firefox. but switching to chrome dev channel fixed the problem. one more thing that updates to unstable versions, but don't know a better solution. i hope there will be a working stable chrome 22 version soon.

    EDIT:
linux-headers-generic couldn't be updated... that may be the reason why the fn-hotkey patch doesn't work.
