Just started Ubuntu Today How do i install .tar.gz

I am a complete Beginner and i was wondering how do I install .tar.gz files? When I search this it always seems that i need to go in the terminal and download something? I'm coming from windows so I'm used to the next, next, next, finish wizard. I guess I just feel that I'm downloading all this useless files and not getting any where. I love it so far but I really need to figure out how to install these types of files.

    Thankyou

Don't. Ubuntu's repository has all the software you need. Just open up Ubuntu Software Center, search for the apps you want to find and click "Install". .tar.gz files are usually source codes, which must be compiled, and complete newbies should NOT be compiling softwares.

.tar.gz file is hard to install :/

but, .deb is like windows installer, just 2x click, click install, type your password, wait, and ta da! Your program is installed!

And the easiest way to install a program is from Ubuntu Software Centre!

.tar.gz files are like .zip files, there isn't one universal method to installing whatever they contain. In some cases, as stated above, they contain the source code for the program and in other cases they can contain directories you have to move to other directories in order to install them.

What are you trying to install?

    Right Click > Properties

Then double click the file, and select Run/Run on terminal

This article is a few years old, but it's very in-depth and sure helps a lot:
