These settings work with no other configuration needed /required:

    Username: your_username @hotmail.com
    Use secure connection: SSL
    Authentication type: password

    Server: smtp.live.com
    Use Secure Connection: TLS Encryption

This is a wonderful opinion. The things mentioned are unanimous and needs to be appreciated by everyone.

Re: HOWTO: Send and Receive Hotmail through Evolution

Let me just say this is my first time using Ubuntu but I have worked on Unix in the past. I am having 1 small problem with this set up when I try to install hotway it tells me :

    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    E: Couldn't find package hotway

and even if I try anything else it just laughs at me I downloaded the install and extracted to me /usr folder but it still won't install.....Is there some strange thing I need to do to get this to work. It just took me like 1.5 days to fix the Nvidia SLI problem I was having and this doesn't seem like it will be any easier. I am really looking for an alternative to M$ but this is starting to make me wonder if this is the one. Please any help would be appreciated. New: I found the other post about hotmail and used those hotmail is now working.

This worked great but unfortunatley it doesn't download my Junk mail, not sure y but if anyone knows, please let me know. Sometimes important things come in my junk folder before I can add the to acceptable mail. Thanks

Yay, my first post here anyway, on to business/questions:
I also get the connection timeout error on the smtp.live.com server. I tried the hotway/hotsmtp as well, but that didn't work either. pop3.live.com however seems to work flawlessly.

Re: HOWTO: Send and Receive Hotmail through Evolution

seems there are some common problems as of late

this is the message I am receiving

    Error while performing operation.
Could not connect to 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
Could not connect to 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
Could not connect to 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
Could not connect to 127.0.0.1: Connection refused

I am not able to send or receive my normal Hotmail emails, not through evolution atleast, which is all I use.
Its back to logging onto MSN all the time, dang it, here and I thought I was rid of the MSN monster.

Hope the powers that be can figure this out.
    Thanks

Re: HOWTO: Send and Receive Hotmail through Evolution

    forget about izymail.com!!!
I found a way to enable hotmail pop3 from here

Here are the instructions and in this forum:
    1. Login to Hotmail.
    2. Mouse over Options, and then click on More Options.
    3. Click on View and edit your personal information link under “Manger your account” section.
    4. Click on Registered Information link.
    5. For both Home Location and Work Location, change the following details to specified values:
    Postal Code: WC1B 3DG
    Constituent Country: England
Time zone: London, United Kingdom - GMT
    6. Click on Save when done.
    7. Go back to Hotmail, and ensure that the display language of Hotmail is set to English by mouse over the Options.
    8. Configure your email client or other webmail service (Gmail configuration to access Hotmail via POP3) to access and download Hotmail Inbox via POP3 protocol, using the Hotmail POP3 and SMTP configuration settings.
    9. The email client or another mail service provider should be able to access, login and download or send through Hotmail server without error.
    10. Once Hotmail POP3 and SMTP support is enable on the account, it’s possible to change and revert back to your original web interface language, home and work location.

Hotmail POP3 and SMTP configuration settings.
    Incoming Server (POP3 Server): pop3.live.com
    Incoming Server POP Port: 995
Incoming Server POP SSL Encryption: Yes (On or Required)

    Outgoing Server (SMTP Server): smtp.live.com
