I currently use Hotmail. Zero problems. Just have to keep the sign-in scripts up-to-date....(updater)

could anyone give me a favour?
Means the Freepops daemon is not running, and/or port settings incorrect

Can i use this in other e-mail managers like Thunderbird?
I have been using Freepops with Thunderbird for several years. Thunderbird does have it's own version, called webmail, but it is awkward to use, and is only designed for around 1/2 dozen webmails, compared with Freepops, which takes very little skill or know-how, and will get you virtually any webmail you desire.

You can run Outlook through Wine, and a whole lot of other stuff, but I
wouldn't say that was a good reason to install Wine.....

Simple. If you get error message "cannot bind" - make sure you have your email account set up first. There are versions for both I386 & amd64.

This will not work on paid versions of hot/livemail, You will have to use the alternative - also somewhere in this thread....
i really have to say that i absolutely thank Indras for his tuturial and kind thread for this subjuct, many didn't experienced any problem. But too sad, i tried for about 2 hours with the problem of "Hotmail wants me to pay" thing....

in despair, i uninstalled hotway and Xinetd and tried mandrill's freepops. it turned out to be really easy, for some one like with only some it experience both windows and ubuntu. only hicup was that i used 'localhost' in stead of what should be 'localhost:2000' which i found out somewhere else. as the freepops manual's tutorial only illustrates outlook express which has a tab for proxy/socket. and evolution doesn't have this tab. you have to use localhost:2000 to specify the socket 2000 that freepops needs.

in non-conclusive conclusion, for a newbie like me, freepops is better.

grateful thanks again for both Indras and mandrill's help.....

U don't have to use wine for windows anymore.....

if u use freepops, it works in utuntu, why wine? if some one have problem with live, update and get the freepops hotmail latest plugin which will resolve live mail. as least the freepops faq says so

each popular webmail domain has its own plugin, just take the plugin for your mail address. if your address if not supported by freepops, well you will have to develop a plugin for my own address, or request someone to help ya...

But is important, because i don't want to run outlook just to get my email im quite comfortable with evolution, i don't need the adv. features and lets just hope the freepops guys manage to reverse ingineer the new protocole microsoft will be rolling out at the end of june.
Otherwise, its www.hotmail.com back again. I'm trying to minmize my use of that account but is hard since i have it since 1998.

I mean, it can be done, (new folder not called junk, for one thing), but how about setting up a "Junk" email account where all that stuff goes.....much easier! Also, you might consider using a different mail provider. (Fastmail, Mail.com, etc...) all the configs would be the same for them as hotmail without the headaches.

    Bitchin'! It worked!! Thanks Mandrill
