    Re: Broadcomm driver

Why do you need to update the driver if it is working? I am using a bcm4313 and the default driver (brcmsmac), it works great.

Actually over here it works great on both 13.10 and 14.04.

Edited: but the closed wl driver which you have to take the trouble to install bcmwl-kernel-sources to activate is horrible, it actually killed the wifi.

    Re: Broadcomm driver

The driver is part of the kernel, but if you installed the STA driver its blacklisted:
    Code:
    grep brcm /etc/modprobe.d/*
    locate brcmsmac.ko | grep lib

    Re: Broadcomm driver

bcmwl-kernel-source installs the proprietary Broadcom-STA driver, module name "wl"

    Check:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
    sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
    sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-bcm43.conf
    sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-common.conf
    sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-sta-dkms.conf
    sudo sed -i "s/blacklist b43/#blacklist b43/g" $(egrep -lo 'blacklist b43' /etc/modprobe.d/*)
    sudo sed -i "s/blacklist ssb/#blacklist ssb/g" $(egrep -lo 'blacklist ssb' /etc/modprobe.d/*)
    sudo sed -i "s/blacklist bcma/#blacklist bcma/g" $(egrep -lo 'blacklist bcma' /etc/modprobe.d/*)
    Reboot

    Re: Broadcomm driver

    Now check
    Code:
    lsmod
    dmesg | grep brcm
    iwlist chan
    sudo iwlist scan
    iwconfig
    ifconfig -a
