Angry 12.04 Clean Install Internet Issues

Please reference this thread for all of my information.

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12014087

I gave up on Ubuntu after that, tried Windows XP, it didn't detect anything. Come to find out, my PC apparently only supports Vista, W7, and open source OS's that are up to date. With Ubuntu at least I got some internet connection so..i'm here back again.

I've just clean installed Ubuntu 12.04. I would like to connect to the internet. I'm almost positive this is a problem I will encounter...

    http://askubuntu.com/questions/79346...on-8168-driver

Could someone walk me through installing the correct driver? I think that's a work around I need to attempt.

Also, as this is very important..

Some sort of an issue with it being unclaimed?

    Please help me!

What's Unclaimed is the tricky Marvell Libertas. The Realtek has a driver and looks pretty solid. Since you have a working Realtek wireless; it is connected and has an IP address, I'd retire the Libertas to the recycle bin.

I don't see much to dislike there. What does it do or not do?

I'm very new to linux, so could you give me the terminal commands or whatever else I need to do so?

The Realtek driver model I have apparently has some trouble (refer to the thread in the OP) something with it loading up the wrong kernel?

Basically, my wired internet doesn't work at all. It says it's connected, but I either get destination host unreachable or 90% packet loss.

My wireless internet works occasionally (sporadic) but it's only at a speed of 1 Mbps, I have fiber optic internet and expect it to be much much faster.

Re: 12.04 Clean Install Internet Issues

After my clean install I can't even get the extremely slow wireless internet. It should be configured for DHCP but it didn't work. I attempted to enter all the information manually, I turned off automatic power management, ignored IPv6 settings..nothing works. It keeps attempting to connect but it never establishes a connection.

Re: 12.04 Clean Install Internet Issues

Let's start with the wireless. Let's see if there are any alarming messages. Please do the best you can to connect with wireless and open a terminal and run and post here:
    Code:
    dmesg | grep -e rt2 -e wlan
The pipe symbol | is on the right side of my US keyboard on the same key with \. Thanks.

Can you physically remove the Libertas from your computer? Please leave the ethernet cable detached while we troubleshoot the wireless.

That doesn't look at all good. I'm Googling and I suggest you do the same. Back later.

Will do..not sure how successful I'll be with such poor Internet though. I'll await your response.

Are you sure its nothing to do with my drivers? The link I posted in the OP?

No response from hardware..could be a driver issue. Not sure.

Do you mean this? http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...52&postcount=8 It clearly states wired. In my post above, I said:
    Let's start with the wireless.
It indeed could be a driver issue, but I see nothing in the link you posted above that troubleshoots or mentions your wireless driver rt2800pci. Do you?

Ah, you're very correct. My apologies. Just very frustrated..over 3 days dedicated to solving this problem with little success, not really at my peak thinking capabilities. Find anything helpful on google yet?
