I think Ubuntu was written by Lucas Electric. I just finished a g4l restore of my prior installation of Ubuntu 12.04 with all my desired software installed, set to gnome-session-fallback etc.
sudo iwconfig eth1 shows Power Management : Off. However, the "slow on battery" symptom is there. The power off command again fixes the problem. However, I see nothing changed.
I have edited /etc/rc.local and rebooted. But that did not work???
Code:
#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local
#
# This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel.
# Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other
# value on error.
#
# In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution
# bits.
#
# By default this script does nothing.
iwconfig eth1 power off
exit 0
I tried it without the sudo as the file is owned by root. It is executable
ken@taylor13:~$ ll /etc/rc.local
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 335 Jun 10 14:46 /etc/rc.local*
ken@taylor13:~$
I added sudo to the line and rebooted again. Still nothing. I added these lines to make sure the script executed
Code:
touch /home/ken/Desktop/i_ran
sudo touch /home/ken/Desktop/sudo_ran
and I find these two files on my Desktop and they are owned by root. Is the script running before the interface is up? I suspect that has something to do with it not making the configuration change.
Is there a way to force the wireless connection up earlier? It does come up prior to my logging into the computer. I can connect over the wireless network with ssh before I login.
