I have in the past few months been experimenting with Linux (I have Windows XP installed on my hard drive)...I have a Knoppix 3.7 LiveCD, which I have had set up as a dual boot on my hard drive a few times, but the KDE desktop environment is a bit taxing on my somewhat old hardware (Pentium II 300MHz, 160MB RAM, nVIDIA GeForce 2 32MB video...old, I know
The GNOME desktop was apealing to me in Ubuntu, so I ordered a set of CDs (Warty). I got them in the mail about a month ago, and I popped in the LiveCD to check it out, but it wouldn't get past the initial boot menu (on the CD). I did actually do a Hard disk install of Ubuntu on my second hard drive (I just set it up as master for a few hours) to test out Ubuntu. I sorta liked it, but I really don't have much hard disk space...certainly not enough to keep 2 operating systems on, so I deleted it. Anyway, I revisited the LiveCD yesterday, still getting the same error, number 23, whenever I try to boot one of the options (except hard disk boot) on the CD (Ubuntu, Ubuntu Failsafe, Ubuntu Expert, etc.....) I actually have to hit the options a few times just to read the number of the error message, because it brings me right back to the menu. What would cause error 23? I do have 2 hard drives in my computer, one floppy, and one (connected) CD drive (which does boot other Live CDs fine). My CD drive is actually a CD-RW drive, but I've *never* had problems before with it. Thank you for any pointers... |
