    Terminal v. XTerm

Okay, I use the regular terminal that came with Ubuntu but for some reason, I also have XTerm. Should I uninstall this or could I possibly need this over terminal?

    Re: Terminal v. XTerm

The Gnome Terminal, XTerm, and UXterm are all terminal emulators that run on the X window system which Ubuntu uses. I found one post that suggested XTerm is faster . The UXterm is/was used with HP Unix .

I have used XTerm on E17 but hadn't used UXterm until checking for updates while writing this. From what I can find they all do the same thing and are just different options for the user. Perhaps a hardcore terminal user could identify different features . They don't take up much space and I have just let them be .

If you don't want them visible open the main menu , select the system tools on the left pane
and remove the checks so they don't appear in dash.

    I'm sorry, where is this?

Probably not. There are two "uxterm" instances that I recall: (a) a very old
(mid-1990s) program for which no source was available, and (b) the shell
script used to configure xterm for UTF-8 encoding. Neither was specific
    to HP-UX.

Keep it. It is rather small anyway, and if you read the man page
    Code:
    man xterm
you will find that it can do a lot of things (there are many more options than for example gnome-terminal). But there are some nice and modern properties of gnome-terminal, that are missing in xterm. So it can be nice to have both (or all).

If you were interested in experimenting a little I would strongly recommend a look at sakura. Powerful and extremely lightweight. There are many others of course....
