    Oh I almost forgot.

    I used UBCD went to parted magic. It also had troubles booting because it could not find the drive. Once into parted magic, it still would not spin up or be recognized.

    Just in case that would be helpful.

    @Poettone,

    I almost forgot. I read in several of the other threads about bad drives, to just plug in the power, and not the IDE cable. Tried that in the first iteration trying to get spin. No Dice.

    again thanks for all the responses so quick.

    Re: IDE drive not spinning up or seen in bios

    Question for the more mechanically/ solid state type knowledgeable persons out there, If it is the driver/controller board, can I Get a T8 remove it and replace with another? or does it have to be from the same make and model?

    regards,

    Hope this helps a little.
    This is true for a 40 wire ribbon cable, with an 80 wire ribbon the far connector is the master. both cables use a 40 pin connector to further confuse the issue.

    Try setting the master/slave to cableselect.
    The IDE controller of my server's broken and only recognises slave devices and only when on cableselect.

    If it's not even spinning up with just the power cable connected, you may have damaged it slightly when removing it from the original PC.
    The damage could be quite minor, i.e. one of the pins in the power connector becoming unsoldered where it joins the controller board due to the pin movement when you removed the power cable. The pin connections should be fully accessible from the underside of the drive in most models so you may be able to check (visually or with a simple circuit tester) if the power pins are properly connected to the controller board and possibly resolder if one is not.
