Wifi Card problem

Ok, I have a TP-Link Tl-WN861N wifi card that i just got for my Ubuntu 11.04 system and im having some problems with it.

The speeds are terrible. I have never had WiFi problems before, i normally got around 30 ping 15 mbps down and about 2 mbps up. Now with this new card i tested it and it got 473 ping 2.1 mbps down and .1 mbps up.

Are there any drivers i can install that might make it not so dsl like?

I a terminal, type or paste:

Post result for your card back here. TP-Link, yes, but use a chip from another manufacturer.

Also, have you plugged in an ethernet cable, gotten updates? Checked System>Administration>Additional Drivers to see if there is anything for your card disabled?

In other words, the driver is part of your currently running kernel. If you click your network icon, do you see your wireless network there? To get specific, could you run:

lspci

... and look for the bit that starts headed 'Network Controller'. That should give you more detail about your Atheros card.

What comes after that? We need to know what Atheros wireless card you are using exactly. You are perhaps using a dated driver from the Ubuntu repos and there might be a better one available from Atheros.
