Is there a way to dual boot Ubuntu on my Android devices?

Looking for a way to add Ubuntu either partitioned with the current OS or as a Stand Alone replacement to my current OS so I can compile on the go.
Are there any Emulators that will do this?

Android Devices: (ALL STOCK - NO ROOT)
Samsung Stratosphere [SCH-I405]
Motorolla Droid 1
Google G1
HTC Incredible 1

*Not sure if this is even possible . . . yet.

Well you could install Debian on a G1 (Debian is the parent distribution of Ubuntu, on which Ubuntu is based. Many Ubuntu software (you can easily say almost all) runs on Debian and vice versa). You can compile applications just as good as on Ubuntu. But a good question to keep in your mind is: Does an old smartphone (with a 600 mHZ processor and sometimes only 256 RAM) have enough resources to compile things?

Also there is an app in the Market (oh, yeah, they called it the "Play Store" these days )
which helps you to install Ubuntu or Debian on your phone:

Or just search "Linux Installer" in the Play Store app on your phone. Choose the first app in the list (from the developer "Galou")

EDIT: For both installing a Debian Dualboot and using the "Linux Installer" your phone has to be rooted, just as you suggested

Maybe you could also search a little bit more with "Google" there is plenty of information about this topic. Lot' s of people have already tried it. And as you can read in the link how to install Debian on a G1, you can really install things like GCC, OpenSSH, Busybox etc.

Great information. Thank you so much for the prompt help. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Lacking the proper vocabulary has hindered my google searches. I always get back to Ubuntu on Usb in dock, not what I need. looking for. I will check it all out and post back if it works on the G1 or other devices soon. Leaving this post unanswered to allow additional feedback and suggestions if that is ok by moderators & staff.

All of those installers on offer in the Playstore require rooting the phone. Anyone knows of installer that doesn't require root?
It really looks good the way Ubuntu for Android is presented on ubuntu.com but the rooting requirement is a big turnoff.

That's simply not possible. Any installer is going to need to make changes to the root file system -- and that requires rooting the phone.
