Shisen sho runs far too slow(ly)

I have just done a clean install of ubuntu studio 12.04 on a dv6000 hp laptop,
and installed kdegames because I like Shisen Sho.
The game runs agonizingly slowly, and I do not know where to start troubleshooting.
My first guess is that some kde environment piece is missing, and I have not yet installed the entire KDE-Desktop-Environment because I rarely use the KDE desktop.
The only complete desktop available on the system right now is fxce, which is fine for me, though I have run ubuntu on this laptop since 2009 and Gnome2, 3; KDE and Unity all worked with previous installs.
    What am I missing?

Thanks, that does look like it is connected, however shisen doesn't even have a sound control as far as I can see.
I am trying to install more of kde desktop environment to see if it helps.

There's Java Shisen which is easy to run. Nothing but Java required.
    EasyBCD.
