We are currently using firewire to capture video/audio from mini DV cams. However, we're finding that miniDV cams and laptops with firewire ports are becoming rare. We also don't like using second hand stuff that may or may not be trustworthy.

What is the upgrade path for video capture in Linux? HDMI? SDI?

What does the market currently use for ingesting video? I've been finding it hard to get any information about what other people do once they move on from firewire.

What are the options? I just want to get an idea of what the world uses for video capture, so any advice from anyone doing anything that involves capturing video on a computer (be it Mac, Win or Linux) would be appreciated.
