    RPG Engine?

Does anyone happen to know of any good engines for RPG development? I'm working on a game with some freinds and am having some trouble finding a good one! It needs to be cross-platform as I'm the only Linux user in the group, and I'm going to make sure there is a release, so I unfortunatlly need to support thire windows boxes... If possible, it would be great if it was Java bassed just because I have some experiance with the language and it would be the most portable, but any recomendations would be great - I'm not at all opposed to learning a new language!

Thank you for any and all recomendations!

Oh and I would love if it was published under a flexible licence, just because there is talk of a comicial release in the future... I would prefer for it to be FOSS but there is life...

Edit: I forgot to mention that the graphics will be 2D if that helps!

Im making an RPG, ...that eventually can be converted into MMORPG,
it can be crossplatform, its Python based, it will be FOSS, but you can choose your Licence for your work, anyways i recommend FOSS, can be 2D or 3D you choose.

Its name is Blender Game Engine, version 2.6.3.6, and its Free.

    Several engines for MMORPGs:

Unreal Engine 4 (Just coming out)
You cannot use this for commercial purposes without a license, which you buy.

As for offline RPG Engines, this can help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG_creation_software

There are more. Ren'py is also a possibility.
    AMD PII X6 @ 3.63 GHz - 16 GB DDR3 (1600 No OC) - ASUS Crosshair V Formula
    SB X-Fi 2 Sound (8ch) - Intel 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet - Win 8 Pro. x64
AMD R HD 7950 (SAPPHIRE) - WD CG 500GB - Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler

Thank you for the replys! I'd quite like to avoid Blender... I've tried in the past but we don't get along... As for the Unreal engine, I would prefer something free if possible, but I'll defiantly check out the list! As for Ren'py, that is more geared towards visual novels so it would be a bit difficult to change to fit our needs. Again thank you!

You never said what programming language you will be using.

If your using Java I would reccomend the JMonkeyengine (already a few commercial games released using it).

If using C have a look at DarkPlaces (Steel Storm: Burning Retribution was made using this).

I did say that while I would prefer Java, I'm open to trying a new language. Anyway, thanks for the recommendations, I'll be sure to have a look at them.

Edit: Whoh! Both of those a little bit more complex then I was thinking but I'm certantly going to file them away for later

Blender Game Engine is the most easy to use of them... just saying...
also making a Game is Complex (more than a Hello World demo i mean)

Yes, I get that, but what I was stating was more along the lines that it would be far to wasteful to use a engine like that as I'm hardly going to use any of its features, depending on how its designed this could create a huge overhead (for instance all of those shaders would be wasted on this project). Also while Blender might be the most easy to use for the majority, I was stating that I've never got along with it, while I'm still investigating it if there is an alternative I would prefer that.

Well, I did say I wasn't adversed to learning a new language, but I rather meant the programming kind! I'll try to take a look at it, but a bit of a barier is that I don't speak a word of spanish!
