Inspirion 1545 wireless card not working

I'm pretty green when it comes to Llinux altogether, but I got my room mate to convert fully from Windows to Ubuntu 12.04 and I haven't found any threads that could help. So far, we only have wireless as we are using the city-provided service.

Does anyone know what my next step should be?

    Thank you in advance.

You need a wired (ethernet) connection & then you'll get a pop-up in the top right corner giving you the option to install additional drivers. It's very automated but you do need wired connection to start with I think.

That's what's worked for me on my Dell 1545.

That's what I had thought as well, since it automatically updated my own laptop when I first installed.

Thank you very much, now he just needs to get off his butt and find someone who will let him plug in.
