    USB died after install abort

I've done a bad thing. I was originally able to partition my drive and install rEFIt, and my mac was booted from the external DVD drive while holding 'C' just fine, but I aborted the Ubuntu install abruptly due to impatience by shutting off the computer holding down the power button. It was very early in the install process when I shut it down. Now the mac wont recognize any external USB device at all, even after a clean install of Mountain Lion and rEFIt. Not even in Finder.

Any ideas? What did I kill?

    Thanks all.

Maybe you can check the USB power, with the following device perhaps:

Re: USB died after install abort

Thank you for the suggestion, but the drive gets power as I can hear it spin up when I plug it in, but it doesn't 'mount', or communicate such that it doesn't show up in Finder (the Finder preference is set that all external drives should show up). I've tried two additional drives and no such luck.
