BlackBox, Openbox, Fluxbox or Variants of those as minimalistic DE?

while i was using windows i fell in love with blackbox - bb4win.

i made the change to linux recently and haven't done any *boxing recently - now i started trying them out again (blackbox, fluxbox, openbox) - and i wonder: which is best to use as minimalistic desktop environment?

i particularly miss folders being integrated into the menu [path].
also, fluxbox seems to be the only one with draggable menus and detachable submenus. bb and ob menus are totally static.

is the bb4win development further than for linux or am i missing something here?

Blackbox has been been dormant for a few years, but Openbox has been pretty active in development. You might give Enlightenment a try, also. Figuring out what's "best" often depends on what drops in your lap, and that's kind of hard to predict.

My recommendation would be Openbox, but that is very subjective, of course.

If you like detachable menus, have a look at Pekwm. If you need help setting it up, have a look at the Pekwm guide I wrote.

thanks! i just read your openbox guide and am using it as DE right now. it seems to be well coded and integrates totally with all the modern (DE thingymagigg? special term missing here).

just the detachable menus would be nice, like in fluxbox.

i'll take a look at your pekwm guide.
