Question What are good LaTeX learning resources and tutorials?

I've made it one of my goals for this summer to learn LaTeX. I've Google'd through a bunch of tutorials from universities, but they typically only had the bare minimum to write simple equations and summations (just copy'n'paste guys) and often didn't go into detail about what certain lines mean.

For example, I went to four different sites and not single one explained why I had to write \documentclass[10pt]{article} at the head of my file. They just told me to do it.

After searching through the forums, I found most people's queries related to LaTeX were about what editor to use, and since I've already settled on TEXMaker, I didn't find them to be of much use to me (though I am interested in learning about making documents on the CLI).

Can anyone recommend any good resources for learning LaTeX (for beginners)? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat here. I think I suck at finding the resources I know should be out there...
So far, this has been quite helpful

"The not so short introduction to LaTeX" is a very good source.
You can find it in here: http://tobi.oetiker.ch/lshort/lshort.pdf
    or in here: http://www.dcsc.tudelft.nl/Education/latex-doc.pdf
(the first one is not working well here)

    thanks.
I'm finding the best way is to start working on something, then go through a tutorial while writing.

So far the best way for me to learn has been to just work on something and Google not a tutorial, but just snippets on how to do something simple. For example, "How to increase font-size in LaTeX." This has worked for my quite well.

I'm a math tutor, so I started off with making worksheets for my students using LaTeX.
