Question Wi-Fi Direct - Interesting Technology [Links]

    Hello All,

my new Android mobile phone has a Wi-Fi Direct capability. This "new technology" allows two Wi-Fi capable devices to connect directly with each other without the need to go over an access point (e.g. router).

Take a look at the video below for details.

According to the information I've been able to find, Wi-Fi Direct is software-based which means that existing hardware will be used. It appears that only the drivers need to be updated.

Furthermore, Wi-Fi Direct support both strong encryption and transfer rates upward of 300Mbps.

Question: Does anyone know when this is likely be made available for Ubuntu?

    Thanks
    Peter
