    Quantal open for development

    Matthias Klose announces the opening of development for Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.10.

    "The development version starts with updated versions of GCC and OpenJDK, some soname changes (boost, hdf5), and some changes with setting the build flags for package builds. We are finally targeting Python3 as the only Python version on the ISO/installation images."

    Ubuntu Developer Summit: May 7-11

    From May 7-11 Canonical will be hosting the Ubuntu Developer Summit for Quantal.

    "The Ubuntu Developer Summit is the event at which we plan for the forthcoming version of Ubuntu. It brings together Canonical engineers, community members, partners, upstream representatives and cloud specialists, in an environment of active debate."

    Ubuntu Serbia presents at Share Conference

    On April 28th 2012 at the Share Conference in Belgrade, the Ubuntu LoCo team Serbia (www.ubuntu-rs.org) held a presentation of Ubuntu 12.04 that aroused significant interest in the audience. The presentation at this prestigious festival was devoted to 12.04 LTS edition, and the capabilities of this new release of Ubuntu, as well as to recently published statistics on the application of FLOSS solutions in the business environment in Serbia.

    The presentation was held by Bojan Bogdanovic (bojce), team coordinator, Igor Kekeljevic (digitalis_vulgaris)and Ladislav Urosevic (uros). They also answered questions asked by the audience after the presentation. The Share Conference is the biggest and most important conference in this part of Europe on the topics of sharing knowledge, the Internet, and social aspects of modern technologies.

    Launchpad Clinic at UDS-Q

    Laura Czajkowski shares details about the two upcoming Lanchpad bug fixing sessions planned for the Ubuntu Developer Summit. "We'll be there to help you get on the road to getting your bugs fixed, and to offer advice on every step of the Launchpad development process."

    Daniel Holbach: The importance of apps in Ubuntu

    Daniel Holbach expresses his thoughts on the importance of apps in the Ubuntu ecosystem. Referencing the upcoming array of platforms (TVs, Android phones etc.) for Ubuntu, he points out that several important pieces of the puzzle (helper tools, magazines, books, music etc.) are not yet available.

    Chase Douglas: Integration testing for X.org

    Canonical developers Chase Douglas and Thomas Voss have been working to create a test environment for the X.org server. The key goals of the project are to facilitate the writing of test cases, as well as providing more comprehensive bug reporting.

    Daniel Holbach: "After the release" is "before the release"

    Daniel Holbach congratulates everyone on the release, but reminds us that we're now starting the next release. Holbach shares a graph of the rise in sponsorship requests since release, and urges Ubuntu developers and others who can help with patch review to join in and help to reduce the queue.

    In this post from the Xubuntu team, they several of the most frequently asked questions for Xubuntu 12.04, including: Is there a way to use folders shared from Windows? Thunar loads very slowly on first launch; how do I fix that? How do I configure multiple monitors? How can I edit the applications menu? I can't resize the window because window borders are too tiny, and my theme shows white text on light background. Help!

    Ubuntu One: An Unknown But Worthy Contender In Cloud Storage

    Azul Launches Zing 5.2 JVM With Support for Ubuntu Linux

    "Azul Systems announced that its Zing 5.2 Java virtual machine now features support for the Ubuntu Linux distribution." Support will be available at the end of a May. Support will be also available for production servers running, Ubuntu 10.04, on x86-64 processors.

    Scott Sellers, Azul system's president and CEO, states that 'they have seen strong demand from enterprises who want to run Zing, the industry's best JVM for Linux, on the expanding number of Ubuntu deployments.' He also sates that "Ubuntu is now great choice for developers and operators who need Zing's market leading predictable, low latency performance and monitoring for their Java applications."

    Electronic Arts Attending Ubuntu Developer Summit

    Joey Sneddon, of OMG! Ubuntu! reports that game giant Electronic Arts will attend next weeks Ubuntu Developer Summit for a short presentation, and says that the talk "ties in with a rumoured 'deal' between Canonical and a major games publisher."
