Mp3 Player mounts but is not detected by Banshee/Rhythmbox

My mp3 player mounts and I can play music from it via Banshee by manually opening the file. However, the mp3 player is not detected by Banshee, ie. it doesn't apper on the left hand panel and I can't sync it with my library. I have the same problem with Rythmbox. Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this?

I'm using an Archos 204 mp3 player with Banshee 2.4 on Ubuntu 12.04.

av you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras it is in your synaptic and should resolve that

@Shantiq: I already have restricted extras installed - I double checked now just to be sure.
