Most of the available projects
require fluency in C, C++, C# or
Python. If you think you could tackle a 2 month project in one of
these languages, then by all means apply! However, if you feel this is
too big a leap from Java, there are plenty of other ways to get
involved in GNOME.
We plan on running a
general (unpaid) mentoring program for people who
would like to get involved in GNOME development, but
aren't sure where
to start, or who don't yet have the relevant coding skills. We're
still in the early stages of organising this, so I'm afraid we can't
set you up with a mentor as part of that just yet, however I'd be
happy to email you once the program is established. In the mean time,
I'd recommend you join the GNOME Women project, which is dedicated to
encouraging women to contribute to GNOME. You can subscribe to the
project mailing list by visiting
http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-women-list. The GNOME
Women wiki page (
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeWomen) has a great list of
suggestions for getting involved in GNOME.
