Noob here!
I have been using my older laptop with 10.08 for things like media streaming to iphone/other devices is working properly. Though streaming over internet is still a distant dream but I will figure that out I guess.
So I decided to build a central media storage which will be on 24/7 and do all the stuff required for streaming to other device and connect to my receiver for my home theater.(7.1 but i have only 5.1 setup right now so 5.1 shd be good).
I don't want a server edition to be installed as I don't think I am geeky enough to manage that. I plan to use UBUNTU LTS 12.04 desktop with the following config. To keep budget low I have avoided the Optical drive and TV tuner card for the time being.
after lot of resaerch I could not figure out the whether I need HTPC or pure server but since this will be seating beside my receiver I used a HTPC case.
Please let me know what you think of the config and most importantly will it be minimum hassle for installing ubuntu.
