    State of fglrx

Im in the market for a new graphics card to replace my fried 9800GTX and was looking at the new radeon 7850, but i was wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the state of the fglrx driver nowadays, specifically in relation to general 3D acceleration support/performance and vmware 3D acceleration guest support, or should i just stick with nvidia since there drivers seem to always work fine.

State might be bad, I'm just starting my forum/internet search. I bought a 7750 explicitly for an HTPC machine in my living room which runs ubuntu. Drivers apparently installed but it's showing up as unsupported hardware logo in the lower right of the screen with an AMD logo. Also there is no option to enable sound through HDMI.

I think you might need to try OpenSUSE out. SUSE and AMD are working together as alliance partner, yours card might integrate better with OpenSUSE. Just my 2 cents
