The script puts that in /etc/modules I think, I basically followed your howto, rekahsoft, and made it into a script with arch and distro detecting...

Maybe the first post should be edited to tell all users who have problems to attach the log-file generated by the script.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

The old script (i386) worked great on this same hardware,

but after a fresh edgy 64-bit install, using the new script,
    I type:
    sudo ./ndiswrapper_setup.sh
and then I see no output, and can't kill the process without opening a new terminal. The script basically just crashes, and no logfile is generated.

My PC is a Compaq Presario v5000 laptop with an AMD Turion64 processor.
    Using the (brand new) Edgy.

I can't think of any reason that would happen...

    Maybe try re-downloading it?

Hey guys, I dont know maybe some of you have the same problem as me, but ive got a solution

If your wireless card is on but NOT scanning..then do

    sudo iwconfig eth1 txpower auto

in my case, my wireless was eth1. So change eth1 to whatever your card is.

Hope this helps anyone else out

    Thats outstanding
I installed the newest version of ubuntu and wireless is not working. HOWEVER I have not yet followed your instructions. I am just wondering again if that will work offline or not? Because I still have no way to connect my desktop to the internet when using ubuntu
    ------
Must be an online thing since I can't get ndiswrapper to install.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

tried re-downloading, ran it as root, and it hung up on me after the first echo. I then pasted the entire file contents at the terminal prompt, and it ran, but didnt work.

You suggest booting to an earlier edgy, but he only edgy I have is 6.10.

at this point, you may be as perplexed as I, so...
I'll see what I can find/do, and will let you know if anything at all works.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Ok, its working--
Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft, 64 bit, compaq presario v5000 laptop, bcm4318.
Aparrently the broadcomm native (bcm43xx) works under this release with firmware cut from

    wl_apsta.o

    this is what I did:

    got fwcutter
    sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fxcutter
    alexander@Toto:/lib/firmware$ sudo modprobe -r bcm43xx
    cut the firmware from wl_apsta.o
    alexander@Toto:/lib/firmware$ sudo bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ /home/alexander/Desktop/wl_apsta.o
    that spit out something like
bcm43xx-fwcutter can cut the firmware out of /home/alexander/Desktop/wl_apsta.o

    filename : wl_apsta.o
    version : 3.130.20.0
