Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

Hi! I have runned through the whole walkthrough a couple of times, it has worked, but then suddenly stopped working because of rebooting or opening network properties or things like that. Now I tried again, and it did not even recognise my card as eth1, so nothing works and sadness is victorious :-/

    Anyway. ndiswrapper_setup gives this return:

Make sure you extract the drivers and such from the zip file using the command tar -xf bcm*.tar.gz This should solve your problem, hopefully.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario v5210us laptop running Edgy. It is an amd64 machine with one of these BCM 4318 cards in it. I have not had any success with getting this card working properly. I have a few questions regarding the process:

First, are the windows drivers that you use in Edgy the same that are used in Dapper? Because your website is down at the moment, I used one of the mirrors from the dapper method to get the drivers.

Second, if I cannot get things working properly under Edgy, do you think I might have more luck with Dapper? From what I can tell, the version of ndiswrapper included in edgy is broken.

I don't know if it helps at all, but each time I do the "sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf" step, I get an increasing number of something along the lines of "Forcing (some attribute) from 2 to 0". That is, the first time I did this step it showed up once, the second time it showed up twice, the third time it showed up about 4 times, and so on.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

#43 wow, I am officially confused, as it seems to be the exact same thing I did before, only now it works...

the terminal with ndiswrapper_setup is now still open, it says "bound to 10.6.6.103 (yes, thats the IP I wanted it to have), renewal in soandso seconds.

But in my experience, it will not work when I reboot, at least it haven't so far. Any clues on why?

@Angafirith: Sorry about the server - that's what happens when a server uses DDNS...people's DNS caches are out of date and then it doesn't work. And to answer your question, no, the drivers aren't the same. You can try my server again, and I'll upload them to my mirror as well.

    Hi,

Has anyone tried to get this card working on edgy beta?

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Hiya,

I tried to download your script but I got a connection timeout!

I'm currently getting 'Access Point: Invalid' when I run iwconfig. I'm hoping to try following your method the whole way through when I can download the script, however I thought it might be worth me asking about my current situation, as in case any of you could help me out I might not have to ditch everything I've done so far!

I started by going through the ndiswrapper wikis, so I've currently got the 'usrmaxga' (USRMAXGa.inf) driver installed with ndiswrapper, and I'm using the wpa_supplicant (see below for outputs*). I've been reading through pages of instructions from all over the place, so I'm in a bit of a muddled state of mind at the moment!

Has anyone got it to work with the usrmaxga driver extracted from the windows CD? Is there something I need to do to fix the access point invalid error? If not, I'll try with bcmwl5 when your file is available again, or perhaps if someone could send it to me at p_os@yahoo.co.uk ?

    Cheers!

    Peter

Oops, meant to say that my card is a US Robotics 5417, hence the driver choice!

It is a known bug in Edgy, but the importance of fixing it is currently "undecided". If you agree that a working ndiswrapper is important in Edgy, go to https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu...per/+bug/59983 , register, and let them know that it's essential that this is fixed before Edgy ships on Oct 23rd.
