This worked for me. Although i had to install the drivers manually before because the drivers included did not work.

My laptop is a Gateway mx7515

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

I was getting ready to declare Ubuntu and wash and go back to Xandros. Then I ran across this thread on how to get the Linksys WPC54G working. With the exception of the Network Manager part, this worked just great. The Network Manager installation failed b/c it needed some .deb packages I didn't have. I was able to remove the failed package and use apt-get to get it once the network was working.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Hello everyone,
I think I found my problem, but I'm not sure how to replace my driver. Some fundamentals: Compaq v2570NR, 60G, 512 MB, ATI Radeon XPress 200M, Broadcom 4318.
    I ran a few commands:

    jeitel@jeitel-laptop:~$ sudo iwlist eth1 scan
    eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning.

    jeitel@jeitel-laptop:~$ dmesg | grep "ndiswrapper"
    [ 39.283652] ndiswrapper version 1.8 loaded (preempt=yes,smp=yes)
[ 39.353109] ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:112): loadndiswrapper failed (65280); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
    [ 393.876543] ndiswrapper version 1.8 loaded (preempt=yes,smp=yes)
[ 393.898628] ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:112): loadndiswrapper failed (65280); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
    [ 466.669206] ndiswrapper version 1.8 loaded (preempt=yes,smp=yes)
[ 466.672169] ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:112): loadndiswrapper failed (65280); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
    jeitel@jeitel-laptop:~$

Then, I went to the system log.
Sep 1 11:50:47 localhost loadndisdriver: loadndisdriver: load_driver(340): coudln't find valid drivers files for driver bcmwl5
    Sep 1 11:50:47 localhost loadndisdriver: loadndisdriver: load_driver(361): couldn't load driver bcmwl5

I think I can't run my wireless because the original tarball I downloaded has a bad bcmwl5.inf file. I have a smaller one I downloaded from the Acer website, and I'd like to replace, but at the risk of sounding stupid, where is my current driver file located, and what commands do I run to substitute my new file for the old?

Thanks for your help, everyone, I really appreciate it!

@HeresJohnny: run ndiswrapper -h and it will tell you how to remove and install drivers. To remove the one I gave you with the original tarball, run ndiswrapper -e bcmwl5. To install your driver, cd into the directory with the driver, and run ndiswrapper -i NAME_OF_DRIVER. have fun

Re: HOWTO/SCRIPT: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

Just updated the main post, I think I fixed the 64bit driver problem AND the network-manager dependency problem too.

So if someone would like to try the 64bit version to see if the drivers are fixed, that would be helpful.

    Thank you.

Can you post the output please?

It should be in a file called wifisetup.log in the directory where you ran the script.
