That's the problem. You have to have internet access while you run the script. If this is absolutely impossible for you, post a quick message and I'll help you with installing without internet.

Wow... Thank YOU SOOOOOO much. You don't even know how long I've been trying to figure out how to configure this blasted thing.

By the way, I am using and Acer Aspire 3000 series laptop and I did not need to download the extra "acer" files to use my BCM3418 wireless card. I am now entirely in working order. Thanks again!

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 with the Broadcom bcm4318 wireless card. I have been trying to get the wireless working for about five days with other how-to's, and yours finally got the job done... almost. My only qualm is that I couldn't use WPA after the script. The network-manager would hang at 28% before dropping.

But, luckily I found a post thatmentioned that repository versions of ndiswrapper may not support WPA. So, I compiled the latest ndiswrapper version from source, as seen at the bottom of this how-to.

But, that didn't take care of the problem totally, as seen in a warning message while installing the new ndiswrapper. The driver for my wireless card was again missing/inactive. So, I edited the script ndiswrapper_setup by deleting the part that installs the ndiswrapper package. (As in, just delete the part between "#INSTALLING NDISWRAPPER" and "#DONE INSTALLING NDISWRAPPER")

I ran it, and now my wireless card seems to be working great here at home with WPA security! Perhaps you could have a look at changing it to compile from source instead of using the package, but I would never have been able to do this without this post, I'm not quite proficient enough to start distributing scripts.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

Oh yeah, and I'm running Feisty 7.04. After trying Feisty a few times, I tried Gutsy 7.10 because I heard it had "solved" the problem with the bcm43xx card. It didn't work, and I had a few program crashes in the first five minutes, so I went back to Feisty when I found these instructions above.
