Weird, the ndiswrapper for Feisty version worked for me with the LiveCD, but when I installed it it doesn't work anymore. None of the above methods have.

Ok, works now. I don't know if this has already been posted but on the site www.ubuntuguide.org there is another method of installing these drivers with fwcutter

Seems to work well for me. Spent hours trying to work out ndiswrapper and linuxant, and this was a simple click and install solution. Thanks!

I used the easier method and the native driver on my laptop. It's working now under 128-bit WEP, but I may want to try WPA PSK TKIP instead once I reconfigure my router for that. Thanks a bunch.

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

    Hello,

First, sorry I did not read all the messages of this thread.

This post is only to share a (little) problem I had following ndiswrapper installation with Feisty :
my wireless LAN card was not showing up at all and it was impossible to configure it !

The problem was that apt-get install command complained about packages not being authentified (warning : my OS is in french ):
    Code:
    Log of apt-get --assume-yes install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9
    Mon Jul 2 17:05:13 2007

    Lecture des listes de paquets...
    Construction de l'arbre des dépendances...
    Lecture de l'information d'état...
Les paquets suivants ont été automatiquement installés mais ne sont plus nécessaires :
      libgfortran1 libburn2 cdda2wav gwget ntp-simple libfile-basedir-perl
      libgnomeprint-data librpcsecgss3 libfile-mimeinfo-perl libxml1
      libfile-desktopentry-perl ntp libgdk-pixbuf2 libisofs2 libgnomeprint15 x-dev
      libgnomeprint-bin
Utiliser "apt-get autoremove" pour les supprimer
    Paquets suggérés :
      ndiswrapper-source
Les NOUVEAUX paquets suivants seront installés :
      ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9
      ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9
    E: Il y a des problèmes et -y a été employé sans --force-yes
apt-get died with exit status 100
In order to avoid this error, the following line in ndiswrapper_setup can be modified from :
    Code:
    output=`logsave -a ~/Desktop/bcm4318-setup.log apt-get --assume-yes install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9`
    to
    Code:
    output=`logsave -a ~/Desktop/bcm4318-setup.log apt-get --force-yes install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9`
    (change --assume-yes to --force-yes)

Launching the script with this modification allowed me to have my wireless LAN card up and running !!

Keep up the good work !

Re: HOWTO: Broadcom 4318 Wireless Cards

How flaky is this native driver? If I don't need greater speed than 1 mbps and I'm never further than approximately 5 meters from access point, should I just try that? I tried to use ndiswrapper, but can't get it working. Now I decided to reinstall Ubuntu and try again. And is there a problem if I install both acer_acpi and acer_hk? Laptop is Acer 5024 and card is Broadcom 4318.

Edit: And does it support WPA or do I need something like wpa_supplicant?
