Your version should have the patch. I have no other ideas.

It sounds like you're running a set top box and your PC's capture card is accepting a feed from that STB vs actually using an embedded tuner (in the card). Is that right?
If so, what is the output from VLC reading from that card (as in 'vlc /dev/video0')?
That right, I am not using the pvr-150 turner.

I'm having the same issue with the same card, the most annoying thing is it used to work until i formatted my harddrive and reinstalled ubuntu
It's by no means clear what card is involved in this thread, but if it is the PVR-150 there has been a recent fix applied in 0.25-fixes, 0.26-fixes and master. Update to the current -fixes package using the mythbuntu repos and you will get the fix.
i don't want add the ppa, because last time i had stablity isues when doing that,

If you don't like the answers why are you even asking here for help.
I'l say again, if you have a problem with your PVR-150/250/350/500 get the latest fixes, with the fix incorporated as from 29 November. If you don't like that answer, theres nothing more we can suggest.
as for your advice i tried upgrading and not only did it not solve the problem but it caused mythfrontend to have problems with lockups. I purged everything and removed the ppa and reinstalled the stock version from the ubuntu repo.
I then replaced my change channel script with a much less convoluted one and it fixed the problem

I have not experienced that bug, but if I do i'll try it. but .26 locksup every time i try to exit the front end, idk if .25 the with the newest fixes is much better. However right now that I finally have it working again, after obsessing over it over the last day and a half, staying up till 6 am scouring goggle trying to find an anwser, I don't feel like messing with it anymore.
