Read this the video at the end inspired me to switch to Ubuntu.
if someone tells you to sudo rm -rf anything don't do it.
let the geek be with you
I followed a guide to format my USB flash drive, and it said to format /dev/sda. The guide was written before SATA hard drives came around, and since my hard drive is SATA it shows up as /dev/sda and the USB flash drive is /dev/sdb, and my hard drive got formatted instead! :O
I was run a command to delete a bunch of files and directories recursively through the command line, but accidently put a space in the path, and deleted the entire home directory. I didn't lose anything because I don't put anything in my home, but I couldn't use any applications. Restarting worked, and all the default settings were there, and I just tweaked my settings to get back to normal.
I make my computer play starcraft tank sounds on lid open/close.
I even had it play "Yes, sir!" after each entered command in the console, but removed it because it's a bit too much.
Other stupid thing I did recently is try out forkbombs.
Also created a simple program filling up the RAM. Effects tested on Windows and Ubuntu. (results: faster crash/recovery in Ubuntu; Mouse remains movable when RAM is filled in Windows)

Please edit your post, I don't want to see you getting in trouble: http://ubuntuforums.org/announcement.php?f=298
Why? I clearly state the effect of the command.
This is a thread about dumb things to do to a PC. If the moderators want to edit it, that's ok with me, but I don't see how it's unappropriate or malicious here.

Maybe you're right. I would hate getting banned because of this.
Better now?
