How to install java so I can use javac and java

I've been looking on the internet, and I don't really feel like searching for too long, so I'm asking my question here. How do I install Java on Ubuntu? I want to be able to use the commands javac <file> and java <file>, but I don't think I have Java installed on my Ubuntu. Every tutorial I use gets some error message, so could someone explain it to me? Thanks

I tried downloading OpenJDK from the app store, and I got this error message: The installation or removal of a software package failed.
What is wrong? I just pressed install.

Never mind, I tried it again and it worked. Sorry for anyone who wastes their time reading this. For anyone who doesn't know how to install Java, just go to the Software Center and install it. If it doesn't work, try again.
