Is above correct? Is Adobe Flashplayer supposed to show as an add-on or extension in Firefox?

Hello All
I have been struggling with flash on my Presario 2100 for a week now
Ubuntu 12.04
When I go to a flash webpage it tells me I am missing the plugin. I have tried a few posts including pasting .so file from version 63. That seemed to work last night but it stopped this morining again.
Firefox and chrome no work. To not for a while chrome wold not even run it would just crash.

Well done, Corvax!
I was puzzled because graphics performance suffered severely when trying to watch full-screen videos. Curiously, this problem didn't happen until after I changed from a two-screen setup to a single 27" display. I've been working around this by downloading videos using Flashgot and then playing them back in Totem. Installing Hal fixed it.
Thanks to you, I got to watch the Curiosity rover land on Mars in full-screen glory.
that solved my problem: http://richardappleby.wordpress.com/.../#comment-1869
I was unable to watch any video.
Had the same problem. Ran sudo apt-get install hal and now it works fine. Easy peezy! Thanks, Corvax.
Same problem - I have Chromium & Firefox, Ubuntu restricted extras installed, Adobe flash plugin as well as hal. Still no dice. I tried downloading the package directly from Adobe, but that did not work either.

I even installed google chrome stable, which should be using it's own flash plugin, but that did not work either.sudo apt-cache search flashplayer

Description-en: Adobe Flash Player platform support library for Esound and OSS
This is an open Source extension library for the Adobe Flash Player
that enables support for otherwise unsupported sound systems. It
provides the libflashsupport.so plugin. The sound system to use is
automatically detected:
.
* It first tries to detect Esound,
* Next, it checks for OSS.
.
If all of the above failed, it falls back to the ALSA driver that's
built directly into FlashPlayer 9.
.
For PulseAudio support, see flashplugin-nonfree-pulse.

I can confirm this.
I did an installation of the ubuntu-restricted stuff
I also did an installation of the latest flash-player using the ubuntu software center (prompted by the thing you click on inside amazon)
I did a reboot.
The thing that finally 'got it working' was installing the hal package.
Thanks to all.
I have been fighting with my flashplugin-nonfree for a couple weeks now. I posted another thread here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2136693 but I was wondering if this thread is closer in subject to what I'm dealing with. I cannot, for the life of me, remove flashplugin-nonfree from my machine! I am running 12.04 on a sony vaio vgn-fe770g. I have tried through synaptic to remove it, I have tried installing flashplugin-installer which would remove "nonfree", still no luck. I am running into the same error code over and over.
I am sorry for posting this in more than one location, so if mods would like to merge these threads or delete mine, I am just trying to get some insight into this problem.Code:(Reading database ... 640508 files and directories currently installed.)Removing flashplugin-installer ... all i had to do in my mythbuntu 12.04 install was open software center, search flashplayer and then install the only 1 that showed up and my flash videos within google chromium browser works
