Please help,- recently upgraded daughters Qimo to Ubuntu 12.04- i think. Wireless not working. Wireless required for her to do school work away from my office.

says i have the broadcom sta wireless driver

tried uninstalling and resintalling the driver,- found one website that suggested blacklisting something- cant remember what it was i blacklisted- found website here-

came on your thread from finding the pci.id to be 14e4:4311.

the terminal says

Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 01)


tried some commands from this thread,- nothing worked. still no wireless networks found.

maybe i need to unblacklist something? i have Dell inspiron E1505

Please hook up the ethernet and do:

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
sudo modprobe -r b43
sudo modprobe b43

Detach the ethernet and tell us if it's working.

My hero! This is my first time using Linux, and after a week of trying to get my wireless working I found this thread, then found the same 4311 ID, did the above and it worked! Through 2 reboots as well. Thank you!

You need the Broadcom STA driver. Please hook up the ethernet and do:

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source

Reboot and it should be working.

With a temporary ethernet connection, please do:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source

After it's done, do:

sudo modprobe wl

If there is no error or warning, your wireless should be working.

This worked for me after ubuntu 12.04 updates somehow killed the wireless connection!

It was not fun to drag my entire system across the house in order to plug into a ethernet cable.
