    Lightbulb Lubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal)

    Hi Everyone,

    It was a great pleasure and fun for the last 6 months when we used to discuss about the future of Lubuntu 12.04 on this thread. Believe it or not? our developers and team members at Lubuntu had a look on that thread so it is not totally a waste of time as some may think
    However, that doesn't mean it's a perfect idea to post your thoughts/suggestions/etc regarding Lubuntu 12.10 here on this thread (check the below Email from Julien with instructions of how to help). This thread for general discussion between users and if you really want to see more features and stuff in 12.10, we need to save the developers' time

    Now, it's time for 12.10 talk and let's do it even better this time and for that, the approach will be different than what we used to do here.

    The Email from Lubuntu Head Developer (Julien) is quiet clear.

    Let the fun begins

    Hi,

    With 12.04 out, we need to prepare the development of 12.10. This mail
    is a try to summarize what you can do for the development of Lubuntu. To
    stay focus, and to keep only my dev hat here, it doesn't include the
    help you can give about the documentation, or the support (forum, IRC
    ...), or the design / artwork. I let people make another thread about
    these topics if they want.

    There are 2 places where we will organize the work on the next version :
    * The blueprint, which will be discussed at the UDS :
    https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubu...u-q-work-items
    You can edit the whiteboard to discuss different topics, I'll clean it
    regularly to keep it usable.
    If you want to discuss the applications by default, please start a topic
    on the mailing list, but at least, with some arguments. Final decision
    for each applications should be make in the UDS session.

    * The TODO page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Developers/TODO)
    It's a list of items, or projets, or bugs we have on our radar. There is
    some ideas for people who want to contribute, including little bugs
    (when we have some), which should be easy to fix (bitesize) and a good
    starting point for people willing to help in the coding.

    Also, this is a list of different areas you can help to improve the
    quality of Lubuntu :

    * Translations :
    If you speak / write English and another language, you can help on
    translation. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Translations

    * Reporting bugs :
    If you find a problem in Lubuntu, you can report a bug. See
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ReportingBugs and especially the general
    notice of this page. Please also check first if the bug is not already
    reported on launchpad.

    * Testing :
    If you like testing and crashing your system, you can contribute by
    testing Lubuntu, especially on testing ISOs before the releases. See
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Testing for details.

    * Triage bugs on Launchpad
    If you want to go deeper in the bug management, you can triage the bug
    reports on launchpad. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage/ for
    an overview of the triaging on Ubuntu.

    The packages we currently focus on are on
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/~lubuntu-packaging/+packagebugs

    One easy way to get involve is to adopt a specific package, see detail
    on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/AdoptPackage .

    Most important items to know when you triage are :
    - Is the bug is correctly affected to the right package ?
    - Is the bug still reproducible by user in Lubuntu or Ubuntu 12.04 ? By
    you ?
    - Is there a solution/patch available on the bug ? Upstream ? In another
    distribution ?

    * Upstream development / coding :
    Of course, we always need people who create code The best way to
    help is to contribute directly to LXDE project, since we heavily depend
    on it :
    - LXDE site : http://lxde.org/
    - LXDE mailing list :
    http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/f...name=lxde-list
    - LXDE git repositories :
    http://lxde.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb-index.cgi

    You can also contribute to specific Lubuntu components :
    - https://launchpad.net/lubuntu-software-center
    - https://launchpad.net/lxfind
    - https://launchpad.net/lxscreenshot
    - https://launchpad.net/lxkeymap

    * Lubuntu small projects
    If you want to make a more long term contributions in Lubuntu itself, we
    have some small projects available on the TODO list :
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/Deve...tesize-bugs.29
    I'll add more details and guidance in the future, but if you are
    interesting, send me a mail, I'll help you to start.

    If you have any questions, please refer to the wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu
    (if it's incorrect, we will fix it), or answer this email.

    Thanks in advance for your help

    Regards,
    Julien Lavergne
    Please, let's do our best to make Lubuntu 12.10 even better and thanks in advance for everything, your contributions are highly appreciated and NEEDED

    Re: Lubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal)

    Wow, I haven't even gotten worm with Lubuntu 12.04 yet Lol.
    Hi all, I think I will start a topic for 12.10.
    I would like to see if the "Desktop sessions and settings" could be changed to more, Ubuntu like procedure. Although I can put programs in their to auto start I still have a reall hard time putting scripts in their. I have been studied every tutorial I can find, including how-to:screencasts [Русскоязычная документация по Lubuntu]
    Which is a great tool, I think is a little difficult, specially for new comers.
    Any thoughts?

    For me cool stuff would be:
    - A menu editor for lxmenu
    - lxfind working & integrated with pcmanfm (plugins for pcmanfm?)
    - redesign of lxmenu to hold "recent documents" & "search files" in it... maybe Raphael can make some mock-ups about this ?
    - Default apps of lubuntu more integrated with the system (I mean those small configurations that should come by default)
    - A DARKER THEME... I SO liked the 11.10 theme...

    Hey, I'm glad Lubuntu Quetzal is running on this Thinkpad R31! Seems much like Lubuntu Ocelot, that's good. The only Precise I could get to install (bug written) was an old Precise Alpha Lubuntu with about a gigabyte of updates kinda sludgy. So....install Ocelot update straight to Quetzal. Only hitch so far is synaptic can't refresh.

    My "theme" is from vacation my wife in a swimsuit on a beautiful Australian beach.

    Oh, hes, running Firefox 11. Will update to 12 when I figure out how - on another notebook updated from pangolin to quetzal will refresh synaptic and updated firefox to 12. apt-get doesn't do 12 either.

    Having fun.

    Jerry

    p.s. Synaptic refreshed O.K. after today's update.

    Am (hopefully) running quetzal as of now-did an edit of my sources.list, replacing 'precise' with 'quetzal'.

    Here's to a really great release, already eyeing some of those tasty bugs to squash.

    Nice poster AJ! Btw, "may thing" -> "may think"

    Re: Lubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal)

    I have a question about the repos. I Installed the daily build 12.10. the only two sources that are marked according to synaptic in other software are independent and independent(source code).

    they are http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu quantal main, binary and source. I assume they are incorrect seeing it can't read the index files from either. someone know what they should be?

    thanks

    If you click the link you provided, then click dists, you'll see that there isn't a quantal repository yet, so you should use the Precise repository.You can use software sources, either in the Software Centre, or synaptic to change the repositories.
